Vientiane, Laos, November 11, 2018. "The name Cuba means for us a friend in another sea", Laos President Bounnhang Vorachith said today when he met in Vientiane with his island counterpart, Miguel Diaz-Canel, informs Prensa Latina. During the official talks between the two Presidents, the also General Secretary of the Popular Revolutionary Party of Laos told his guest: "Your visit is for our people a stimulus to keep fighting, keep working and continue strengthening relationships." In the presence of both, members of the respective delegations signed a Cooperation Agreement between the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (LPDR) and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation of the Antillean nation. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the LPDR Bank and the Central Bank of Cuba. It is the first visit to Laos by a President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, and the second by Cuban President Díaz-Canel, who before, as First Vice President, was in the Asian nation in June 2013. Havana and Vientiane entered into diplomatic relations in 1974, but their ties go beyond that categorization and are characterized by political trust, brotherhood and solidarity among their peoples, Parties and Governments.
